What is Healthy Kids?
- Healthy Kids is free or low-cost health care coverage for Oregon children who don't have health insurance
- Coverage includes doctor visits, dental care, vision, medicines and more
- Coverage lasts for at least one full year and can be longer so long as the child is still eligible
- Even kids with current health conditions can enroll
Who Can Participate in the Healthy Kids Program?
- Any child living in Oregon,
- Under the age of 19,
- Who has not had health insurance coverage for the last two months (though there are exceptions to this rule for special circumstances, like a parent's job loss or a child's serious medical need)
How does the program work? How much does it cost?
- Enrollment and cost of the Healthy Kids Program is based on a family's income and there are three health coverage options: no-cost, low-cost and affordable
Example: For free or low-cost coverage, household income can't be more than 300% of the federal poverty level, which is about $66,000 for a family of four. Qualifying income levels depend on family size, so for smaller families, the income guidelines are lower. For larger families, the income guidelines are higher. For households with an income greater than 300% of federal poverty level, there is an affordable plan that families can purchase.
