UCAN's award-winning Properties
In January 2008, members of our staff went to Washington DC to accept the Maxwell Award from the Fannie Mae Foundation for our Grandview property.
This $75,000 award from the Fannie Mae Foundation recognizes "outstanding development of supportive and affordable housing for homeless individuals and families."
UCAN is proud to receive this award and will use the money received to continue it's development of housing for low-income populations.
Grandview Homes offers 10-two and three bedroom permanent housing apartments for homeless families with specific program requirements. The apartments, built in 2003, are energy efficient units. They have energy star appliances including washers and dryers in each unit. The utilities are fully paid by UCAN and this is the only UCAN property where the rents are based on 30% of the resident's income.
UCAN strives to help house a population who have difficulty finding and securing adequate housing: those in drug or alcohol recovery, those who have been incarcerated, those who suffer from chronic mental illness, and the very low income. While helping these individuals and families with housing, UCAN also works with them to help them grow and overcome the boundaries that make finding suitable housing a challenge.
