Solar Panels
With the help of a program through Energy Trust of Oregon, Inc., UCAN was able to install solar panels on four of it's houses earlier this year. These solar panels will save the residents significant amounts on their electric bills by heating water before it goes into the water heater. Even here in Douglas County, we get enough sun to heat the water to as much as 140 degrees or more in the spring and summer months.
In fact, the water is mixed in a valve as it comes out of the water heater to cool it down before being used by the occupants. The water heater works less, lasts longer and the electric bill can be cut by as much as 25%.
If you are interested in having water heating solar panels installed on your house, please contact the appropriate agency according to your water heater energy provider:
- Pacific Power customers: Energy Trust of Oregon, Inc.
- Avista customers: Avista Utilities
