Umpqua Community Action Network is a private non-profit Community Action Agency, founded in 1969 in Roseburg, Oregon by a group of three women, then called "welfare moms", and two caseworkers who wanted more for their children. Now, more than 35 years later, UCAN operates throughout Douglas and Josephine Counties with a staff of more than 135 people committed to promoting resources and opportunities that increase the self sufficiency of all low income families and individuals.
Through the operation of our programs and in partnerships with other agencies, our goal is to alleviate poverty and positively impact the quality of life for elderly, poor, and disabled individuals.
We believe in...
Understanding, Respect, Dignity, Compassion and Equity - Our board, staff and volunteers embrace these qualities in their interactions with people using UCAN's services, the staff and the community.
Making a Positive Difference - Our services make a positive difference in people's lives because we believe that all people have the ability to grow, improve and change. We make a positive difference in our communities by providing needed, meaningful and quality services.
Partnering - We are an interactive partner with the people using our services, other agencies and the community.
Quality and Excellence - We are committed to performing all of our functions to the highest caliber and strive for "best practices" in all aspects of our operations. We are a "learning organization" that values creativity and flexibility and embraces the concept of continuously improving the quality of its services throughout the agency.
Unbridled Courage, Honesty, and Integrity - We are willing to take risks, try new things, and we encourage staff ideas for new projects. We are committed to honesty and integrity in all aspects of our organization.
Accountability - We provide services in a manner that is effective, efficient and meaningful to the community and people's lives. We use public and private funds in a prudent manner and have fiscal controls that assure superior accountability.
