The UCAN Approach

Service to Community Members

We welcome everyone seeking services at UCAN.

From the outset, we offer multiple ways for people to connect with us.

  • Our friendly front desk staff offer a warm connection to our services,
  • On-line applications allow people to apply for some services from their phones, tablets or computers.
  • On-line forms allow folks to quickly let us know about specific needs,
  • On-line schedulers allow people to make appointments for certain services.

When we first meet, we establish a caring relationship so people feel comfortable letting us know about themselves. We treat each person with dignity and listen carefully to best understand each person and their personal goals. We use an equity lens to sharpen our ability to meet needs in ways that affirm each person’s culture.

We focus on what already works for each person, what skills and resources they already have. We work with those seeking services to determine what resources are already available to them in their own network of family, friends and community. We see what services and resources we have that might help each person reach their own goal.

Our work is led by hope. It is led by an understanding that all people grow. Most importantly, it follows the path that each individual sets forth for themselves.

Service to Our Communities

We offer an array of human, health and family services to help build strong communities throughout our service region. Each year, we develop a comprehensive community assessment looking at both community needs and assets. Our most recent assessment is found here

Our assessment allows us to make programming changes that best address most pressing needs while avoiding duplication of services. We also use our annual assessments to develop strategic plans covering multiple years. Our current strategic plan is found here.

Our staff serve on many local, regional and state committees and coalitions. Through our presence, we advocate for what our communities most need. Local partnerships allow us to share funding, share other resources, and share our expertise.
